The Kick-off Meeting and the First Training on “Forest Carbon Stock Assessment Using Geospatial Technologies” Project was successfully held in Hangzhou, China during 18-27 March, 2019 with the participation of delegates from Bangladesh, China, Iran, Mongolia, Pakistan, Peru and Thailand.
In the Opening Session, on behalf of APSCO Secretariat, Dr. Manop Aorpimai, Director-General of Strategic Planning and Program Management Department of APSCO welcomed all delegates and appreciated the project leader SUPARCO for their contribution to the project, especially well preparation for Project Implementation and Management Plan (PMP). Also, he announced the establishment of Project Management Board (PMB) of this project. Meanwhile, he encouraged all Member States to share their knowledge and to contribute to this project and wished a successful achievement of the first milestone of the project.
The meeting was chaired by Dr. Manop Aorpimai, started with a general project introduction and review of the Project Implementation and Management Plan (PMP). Dr. Atif Shahzad, from project leader, gave a detailed introduction on PMP document including Project Background, Objectives, Study Approach and Task Definition, Satellite Data Requirements, Task Breakdown and Description, Cost Analysis, Risk Management and Deliverables. All Member States had intensive discussion and shared their experience and comments on PMP.
During the meeting, the project implementation Contract as well as Standard Operating Procedures on project management of this project were discussed between APSCO and project leader SUPARCO. Both Parties reached a consensus on these documents and suggested following procedures for signing the contract soon.
The First Training of Capacity Building on satellite data processing techniques required for implementing the project was successfully organized from March 21 to 27. All Participating Member States made presentations to share their experiences and exchange knowledge on forestry and activities on forest carbon stock during the training.
At the end of the training, the Certificates of Attendance and Appreciation were also issued to all participants and lecturers for their hard work and contributions by APSCO Secretariat. It was recognized by all Member States that the project has been successfully kicked-off, and ready for implementation according to the PMP. All Member States congratulated the APSCO Secretariat for organizing the event with warm hospitality, acknowledged and appreciated the contribution on the PMP by project leader SUPARCO, Pakistan.
